On Sunday, March 2, our little lady turned 5 years old! I can't believe Avari has been in our lives for five years already! We have enjoyed watching her grow, and develop into the smart, sassy, stubborn little girl she is. She has a facial expression and answer for everything, and you never know what is going to come out of her mouth, but we wouldn't change her for anything. She loves preschool and is doing great. She really just loves learning in general. She enjoys writing letters, and trying to spell words. She likes to have people read books to her, and is even reading some easy books on her own. She loves playing on the computer, the tablet, and any other electronic device.
She definitely makes our lives complete and we look forward to continuing to watch her grow and learn.
Avari had her 5-year check-up/kindergarten check-up on March 5. She checked out great, and is growing like she should be. She is also one step closer to going to kindergarten. She now weighs 44 lbs (75 percentile) and is 46-1'2" tall (95th percentile).
Any one that has been around Avari lately, knows that she absolutely LOVES the movie Frozen! So it would come as no surprise that she wanted a Frozen birthday party. Considering that Frozen is the most popular movie out there right now, it was not easy to find decorations. Luckily, my cousin, April, got married in January 2005, and decorated with a bunch of snowflakes. We are very thankful to her for letting us borrow them. I was able to find some plates with Anna and Elsa (the princesses from the movie) on them, as well as some snowflake napkins. I also found a little figurine set of Anna, Elsa, Christoff, Sven, Olaf, and Hans (the main characters in the movie) to use on her cake. This actually became very useful when a guy that Alvin works with asked if he could make the cake for Avari because he really wanted to make an ice castle cake. We agreed to let him make a small one for Avari because one to feed everyone would have been WAY too expensive. We also gave him the figurines because we knew it would be nearly impossible for him to find some, unless he wanted to pay a lot for them.
With Alvin's hospital stay, it made it a little harder to get things ready for the party, but with the help of family members, we were able to get everything done. Alvin brought the cake home Friday morning, but Avari didn't get the chance to see it until after school Friday morning. She loved it! She and the rest of the kids, had to thoroughly check it out.

I'm pretty sure Avari thought that her birthday was a 3-day event. She got to celebrate her birthday at preschool on Friday. She brought in cake cookies with rings of the Frozen characters on them, the class sang Happy Birthday to her, and she got a "Happy Birthday" certificate with a pencil on it.
Friday night, the Schipps came over to help decorate for Avari's birthday party.
Saturday morning, we got the soups started for Avari's party. Then we headed into the Y for Avari's last bitty basketball game of the season. She was excited about this game because she got a medal and cookie after the game. :-)

After the game we continued to get things ready for the party. People started arriving around 4:00, and the birthday festivities began. Avari had a blast playing with all her cousins and friends. I think this year's birthday is going to be a hard one to beat because she has said several times that "this was the BEST birthday ever!!!" When you ask her what her favorite gift is, she basically mentions every Frozen and American Girl thing that she got. Haha

Avari's AWESOME cake!
So, her cake was only suppose to be the little cake on top...
...but the guy was having so much fun with it, to stop at the little cake.
I had planned on making cupcakes to go with the cake, but was told I didn't need anything else.
I went ahead and made some white cupcakes because the cake was all chocolate, and I knew not everyone liked chocolate. Actually, one cake was chocolate with caramel sauce in it, and the other two were devil's food with chocolate sauce in it. Yes, they were as delicious as they sound!
I don't know how he drew that snowflake on there, but he did an awesome job. The ice castle and stairs were completely edible.
This guy is one very talented person!

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY AVARI GRACE!!!
So, the only place to put the "5" candle was in the front of the cake, but Avari wanted to stand behind her cake, while we sang to her. Therefore, she couldn't reach her candle to blow it out. Luckily, Kaden B. (there were two Kadens there.) was nice enough to blow it out for her. Haha
Avari decided to come to the front of her cake, so we re-lit the candle for her. :-)
After cake, it was time for presents! Avari loved everything she got! She would like to thank everyone, again, for the gifts that they gave her.

She wanted this castle SO bad!! She watched the commercial for it on the computer so much, that she knew most of the jingle. :-D
Sunday, was day #3 of her birthday celebration, and her actual birthday! After counting down for the last 25 days, Avari could finally say that she is 5 years old!
Taking down the last number on her countdown.

That evening, we finished cleaning up from the parties. The kids also enjoyed playing with Avari's new toys.
Easton loves to "help" me vacuum. Almost every time I get a vacuum or stick broom out, he has to get his too.
And what could be better than celebrating your birthday for three days?? How about having school cancelled the day after your birthday, so you have another full day of playing with your new toys, along with your brothers and cousins! That's right, the snow, sleet, ice on Sunday, caused schools to be cancelled once again on Monday. Hopefully, this was the last time school will be cancelled this school year!
